Liva Camarata has electrified crowds in a variety of settings over the past four years. Now the Huntington High School senior is set to take her talents to the University of Hartford and the Hartt School of Music where she plans to further refine her considerable talents and begin pursuing her professional hopes and dreams.

“Hartford was actually a last minute decision for me,” Ms. Camarata said. “My mom was the one to suggest that I apply early action, so I did, and when I toured and auditioned I immediately fell in love. Everybody at the school was incredibly kind and welcoming and all the classes are very small so it created a great sense of a close community. I also liked that it wasn't too far away from home and the city so it would be easy to visit.”

The teenager is planning for a career as a high school chorus teacher and to do “a little bit of performance” on the side.

“The Hartt School is a great school for music and offers a five year double major program for music education and performance, which is perfect for me,” Ms. Camarata said. “Even the city itself is amazing. There are so many fun restaurants and gig opportunities for musicians so I know it is a place where I would thrive. That's why I chose Hartt.”

Besides school plays, concerts and various special events, Ms. Camarata has also performed at indoor and outdoor athletic events and at the Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony last June. She plans to perform for the Blue Devil seniors again this year.

“Throughout my years at Huntington High School I have been involved in the school drama club playing roles such as Mamma Morton, the Sour Kangaroo and Mrs. George,” Ms. Camarata said. “I have also been a part of our chamber orchestra, chamber choir, acapella and jazz ensemble. I always participate in our schools events as well like K-Factor and Cupid for the Cure to show my support. I’ve also represented our schools music program by attending festivals such as All County, Long Island String Festival Assn, All State and All Eastern.”

Ms. Camarata appears unaffected by any nerves prior to or during any performance. She’s regarded as a Blue Devil good luck charm as Huntington usually wins whenever she sings at an athletic contest.

“A major influence and mentor for me has definitely been my orchestra teacher, Mr. [James] DiMeglio,” Ms. Camarata said. “He has always pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped build my musical skills and confidence overall. I couldn't be more grateful to be his intern this year working alongside him in string orchestra.”

An easygoing and happy young woman, Ms. Camarats fits in perfectly with her fellow Class of 2025 members. She’s thoroughly Huntington, having gone through elementary school, middle school and high school here.

“I would say my experience in Huntington has definitely been a positive one,” Ms. Camarata said. “I am so grateful for all the opportunities it has provided me, especially in my field of interest.”
