Spanish Honor Society Soccer Tournament Delivers Action
April 21, 2025
Huntington High School’s Spanish Honor Society chapter delivered an exceptionally competitive and energetic soccer tournament in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. The competition played out over many hours during a recent afternoon.
The tournament served as a fundraiser for the Spanish Honor Society, which plans to use the proceeds for student scholarships. The event drew 12 teams consisting of about 75 students. The gym bleachers were packed with both students and faculty members.
“It’s a great event because students who love soccer, but are not on the team can participate to win the coveted championship,” said teacher Nadine Araoz, who serves as the Spanish Honor Society’s faculty advisor. “The event brings out many of the English language learners who are passionate about soccer. We had a two year hiatus during Covid, but other than that, this tournament has been a popular event for more than a decade.”
Spanish Honor Society members competed, officiated and helped organize and promote the event. A nearby food sale delighted fans, too.
Once play was complete, Los Intocables had won the team title with the Juego Bonito team finishing second.
The lively affair left participants wanting for more. The tournament has really caught on with a teacher team even joining the act.
