District String Fiesta Brings Back 90’s Music
April 7, 2025
This year’s Huntington UFSD String Fiesta at Huntington High School drew more than 230 students spread across grades 4-12. It was among the largest such events ever and it was a time for those participating in it to grow in their talents and to have fun, too.
“This year’s String Fiesta theme was ‘Bring back the 90's!’ music teacher Christina Bhasin said. “It was a great success, with many parents volunteering to help out throughout the day, assisting with registration, snack time, lunch time and photos. Students had a great time working on the 90s music.
Participating students learned and performed: “I Want it that Way” by the Backstreet Boys;
“Can't Touch This” by MC Hammer; “All Star” by Smash Mouth and “Smells like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana.
Ms. Bashin was joined at the fiesta by faculty string colleagues James DiMeglio, Nicole Castaldo, Nicole Lynch and Arielle Harvey, who all worked to make the day a success.
“During our pizza lunch they were able to sing some karaoke 90’s songs, play some 90’s games and take pictures in the photo booth, while the high school orchestra members assisted in the sectionals and musical games,” Ms. Bhasin said. “It’s a great opportunity for the younger orchestra members to get to know and learn from the older orchestra members as well as meet all of the orchestra teachers in the district.”
Huntington High School strings musicians also participated in the day, assisting teachers and working with the younger students.
