H-ton Seniors Encouraged to Apply for Local Scholarships Now

Members of Huntington High School’s Class of 2025 are encouraged to continue applying for available scholarships. Many of these scholarships are detailed below with hotlinks to applications.
These awards are locally sponsored and more easily obtainable than those that are state or national competitions. Essays are usually required. Plan ahead and allow ample time to prepare all necessary documents.
Kami can be used to complete applications. Completed applications must be emailed or shared through google drive to scholarships@hufsd.edu unless indicated otherwise.
Completed applications must be submitted by April 29, unless noted differently. Exceptions will not be made. Click on the scholarship name to view and download the application.
Among the available local scholarships are:
ALAN KUVER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP/ ATH SCHOLARSHIP honors the beloved Huntington high school teacher and resident, and will offer a $1,000 scholarship to a student entering an accredited post-secondary institution pursuing a technical degree. The essay must have the cover sheet attached.
ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS of $500 will be awarded by DSPA to two seniors going to college, one or both of whose parents are graduates of Huntington High School. Character, willingness to help others and academic performance are criteria.
APPLIANCE WORLD OF HUNTINGTON is offering a $500 College Scholarship to a Huntington High School senior who has demonstrated outstanding community service to others at the local, state, or national level. In 750 words or less, discuss which community service activities you have participated in, which activity meant the most to you and why, as well as what sort of community service plans you have for the future. Please describe why you could benefit from this scholarship as well any other information that would describe you.
ATH SCHOLARSHIP of $1,000 recognizes a graduating senior entering the field of education. The essay must have a cover sheet attached.
CARMELA SANTORSOLA PROVENZANO SCHOLARSHIP for $1,000 will be awarded to a senior with a GPA of 96% or higher and who demonstrates financial need.
CAROL SOSKIL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP/ ATH SCHOLARSHIP honors former Huntington teacher Carol Soskil. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who is entering college in a teacher preparation program in any of the following concentrations: Elementary, Reading, Special Education, and/or ESL. The essay must have a cover sheet attached.
CHRISTINE AMODEO PALMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP/ ATH SCHOLARSHIP honors a librarian who served our district from 2001 until her passing in June 2015 due to cancer. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who best reflects the perseverance, humility, and dedication of Christine Palmer Amodeo. The essay must have a cover sheet attached.
HARTE, The Huntington Association of Retired Teachers and Employees, is awarding 2 scholarships of $1,000 each to Huntington High School seniors who plan to enter nursing school, trade school, a vocational program or any 2- or 4-year school. Scholarships will be made out directly to students.
HOWARD MUNSON SCHOLARSHIP of $5,000 will be given to a student planning to attend a vocational school. First preference will be given to a student in an automotive or mechanical field.
HUNTINGTON ROTARY CLUB will award four scholarships totaling about $14,000 to Huntington High School seniors who will be attending college. Three scholarships will be awarded after an interview to those actively involved in their school and community, and one scholarship will be awarded to a special education student who has overcome obstacles.
THE JAGODA SCHOLARSHIP of $500 is in memory of Jake and Mary Jagoda, graduates of Huntington High School, who had a passion for living and learning, especially history. Criteria includes: academic excellence with an emphasis on history courses, declaring a college major in history or a related field, an essay on “History Is My Passion” and a social studies teacher recommendation.
THE J.M. WEST VOCATIONAL/STEM SCHOLARSHIP in the amount of $500 will be awarded to a Huntington High School student aspiring to study either A) vocational trade or B) a major in STEM, with plans to attend a 2-year college or vocational school/apprenticeship upon graduation. The student must be a graduating senior who is: creative, ambitious, goal-oriented and scholarly. It is preferred if the candidate is a hands-on learner and enjoys learning and working on projects of any kind both in and out of the classroom.
THE KATE BENDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP of $2,000, was created in loving memory of Kate Bender, a long-time employee of the Huntington School District Human Resources Department, who passed away in December 2017. Mrs. Bender worked for Huntington UFSD for over 25 years and helped and influenced countless teachers and fellow colleagues with her calm, level-headed and genuinely kind approach. She truly epitomized perseverance, patience and positivity. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Huntington High School senior who demonstrates persistence and determination in overcoming or managing some sort of obstacle or specific challenge, as well as financial need.
THE LINDA SHOEMAKER BLUE DEVIL BAND SCHOLARSHIP is available to a graduating senior enrolling in an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor degree in Music Education (or General Music Education if no Instrumental Music Education applicants are interested). This is a $2,000 scholarship and the recipient can receive $1,000 for the next three years by providing proof of continuing enrollment in the degree program.
THE LOTURCO & PALACIOS ORAL ADVOCACY SCHOLARSHIP is available to seniors who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their community through participation in activities such as Debate Team, Mock Trial, Model UN, Virtual Enterprise, Student Government or any other program that exemplifies oral advocacy. The scholarship will award $2,500 to a single student, payable directly to the student.
THE MICHAEL SAMUEL GILMOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP will be awarded to two College-bound Huntington High School students. Each student will be awarded a $700 scholarship. The students must be graduating seniors who, like Michael, exemplify the following characteristics: scholarship, musicianship, athleticism, empathy, and care for his/her fellow students, respect for school staff and teachers, and a commitment to the Huntington community.
NEW YORK BENEFITS FOR EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS TRUST (NYBEST) has selected our district to present a $500 scholarship to one of our graduating seniors in honor of Dr. Rubie Harris, our Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Management Services, who currently volunteers her time serving on the NYBEST Executive Committee. Interested students must be planning on studying either Business or Education in college. It is preferred that the recipient would benefit from financial assistance though it is not required.
THE OCTOBER DAWN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP of $2,000 will be awarded to a special education student who plans to enroll in a college or vocational school in the fall. This scholarship is in memory of Kathryn A. DeGelleke, who worked in the district as a home tutor and provided instructional support services. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 70.
THE PALACIOS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP is available to seniors who have helped the Huntington Station Latinx community prosper and can demonstrate they will be attending an accredited college or university. Applicants of this one-time $2,500 scholarship must have achieved an 85 average and completed at least 10 hours of community service.
T. CHRISTOPHER PETTIT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP of $8 - $10,000 (four- year $2-$2,500 annual grant) will be given to a Huntington High School student with a minimum GPA of 80, demonstrated athletic abilities and interests, exceptional leadership skills, and the potential to succeed. The recipient’s college or university will receive the funds directly to help defray his/her tuition costs and other educational-related expenses. Additionally, a one-time achievement award of $1,500 will be granted to meritorious candidates. Scholarship amount can be more depending on number of applicants and interviews. Deadline is May 2.

The following scholarships have individual deadline dates established by each organization.
Some deadline dates are earlier than the scholarships listed previously. Please be sure to obtain any required school paperwork in advance (transcripts, letters of recommendations, etc.) by visiting Guidance West.
THE DONALD A. PIUS SCHOLARSHIP is available for the Town of Huntington seniors in pursuit of their college and/or vocational trade education. Five $2,500 scholarships are available and renewable for 4 years. Criteria includes: financial need, academic performance, community service, family responsibility, and/or extracurricular activities. Applications are available here. Deadline is May 2.
FRIENDS OF THE HUNTINGTON PUBLIC LIBRARY has two $750 scholarships available for all high school seniors who live within the Huntington School District. One to be awarded to a senior matriculating in a 2- or 4-year college and the other to a senior attending a vocational program. Applicants must live within the Huntington School District and be Huntington Public Library card holders. Application should include a letter of recommendation, acceptance letter, and an essay on how visiting and using the Huntington Public Library impacted you as a reader, student, and/or in your personal interests.

HUNTINGTON LIONS CLUB will award a $5,000 scholarship, payable in installments. The award will be based on financial need, service to the community and school, academic accomplishments, and acceptance to an accredited academic institution. A copy of the Financial Aid Form, SAT scores, and a letter of recommendation must be included.
Applications are available here and are due to Ms. Bonilla in Guidance West. Deadline is April 22.
MOONJUMPERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM is offering 3 scholarships of $1,000 to students within the Huntington and South Huntington school districts. These scholarships are offered to college/trade school-bound high school seniors based on demonstrated academic standing (GPA of 75-85), financial need, and contributions to the community. Students can only apply to one of the three scholarships offered. Interested student can apply online at https://www.moonjumpers.org/high-school-scholarship-program. Deadline is May 1.
THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY is awarding an NHS member of HHS a $500 scholarship. A 300-word essay is required and students must provide proof of acceptance to an academic institution. Applications are available here. DEADLINE IS MAY 16 AT 2:30 p.m.
THE POETRY SLAM SCHOLARSHIP of up to $2,500 is open to all Long Island, NY (Nassau or Suffolk County) seniors entering college in the Fall of 2025. Applicants are asked for a 2-3-minute video of themselves delivering their poem. Students will be selected based on concept and delivery - basically what you are saying and how you are saying it. THE SUFFOLK COUNTY CHAPTER OF JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA, INC. is offering the Kathleen Taylor Memorial Community Service scholarship to students of African Ancestry (African, African-American, and Afro-Caribbean) who exhibits commitment to serving their community. An essay of 500 words, letter of recommendation, and minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. See here for an application. Deadline is April 14.
TRI COMMUNITY & YOUTH AGENCY offers the Joseph Martone Scholarship of $500 to one Huntington High School senior, based on character, achievement, community service, sports and/or extracurricular activities. Interested students should visit here for an application. Deadline is April 22.
VIRGINA W. SMITH SCHOLARSHIP of $2,500 is available to one Long Island senior who plans to further his/her education by majoring in horticulture, environment, or conservation studies. An interview is required. Students can access the application at http://ncgc.org by clicking on Scholarship. Deadline is June 1.
ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY INCORPORATED, Rho Omega Zeta Chapter (Long Island, NY) awards their annual "Mate Masie" Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating female high school senior of African descent who has maintained at least an 85 average or demonstrated involvement in extracurricular and community activities. Interested students should visit here to apply. Deadline is May 16.
