Dylan Proctor to Study Aviation Science at Western Michigan
April 4, 2025
Dylan Proctor is a happy Huntington High School senior. He has already identified his passion and he’s working hard to master it. The teenager has found the perfect college to pursue his hopes and dreams.
“I chose Western Michigan University because on almost all lists ranking flight schools around the country, WMU has ranked second in the United States, as well as sixth in the world,” Mr. Proctor said. “It just build a new flight school in 2021 and it is in the process of receiving new Cirrus aircraft that have the most advanced technology available on the market.”
A member of the National Honor Society as well as the English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Tech honor societies, Mr. Proctor is a four year, eight season runner on the Blue Devil winter and spring track teams. “I have loved every minute of it,” he said.
“I knew that I wanted to pursue something in aviation since I was about four or five years old,” Mr. Proctor said. “As a kid, looking through the glass at the airport and seeing the planes take-off and land intrigued me. As I got older and options to fly became more available, including starting flight lessons and flying an airplane by myself, it really solidified that aviation was my passion and I'd want to do it for the rest of my life.”
Mr. Proctor is vice president of the Skills USA program at Wilson Tech’s Republic Airport campus. The organization hosts events catering to all sectors of vocational programs that Wilson Tech has to offer.
“My experience at Huntington has been nothing short of incredible,” Mr. Proctor said. “Finding my place within the community, not only enjoying my rigorous coursework that I have taken on, but also making great relationships with teachers and friends have supported me throughout my time at Huntington really helped me to achieve all that I have.”
The senior is a well-regarded member of the Huntington High School community. He’s earned outstanding grades across every academic discipline and he has an engaging personality.
“In the aviation flight/science program at Wilson Tech, I have been able to not only fly and continue adding hours into my flight logbook, but also understand the mechanics of planes, aerodynamics, weather theory, necessary equipment to be able to fly legally and all the information needed to be able to pass my written Private Pilot’s Exam, which I passed last May,” Mr. Proctor said. “This year, I will be attempting to pass my Part 107 Drone Pilot’s Exam, which will broaden my abilities within the aviation community.”
Mr. Proctor has followed a somewhat unusual path through high school. After all, few students learn how to fly during the school year. He recommends the Wilson Tech program to Huntington underclassmen.
“Through my time at Wilson Tech, I have been able to meet many friends that have the same interests that I do, supportive teachers that help me along the way, as well as set a foundation for business relationships within my future career,” Mr. Proctor said. “To anyone interested in any kind of career in aviation, I would highly recommend taking the program at Wilson Tech because it will help strengthen your understanding of aviation and introduce you to the industry.”
