Playing without St. John, who sat out with a muscle strain, the Blue Devil girls’ team found itself in a closely fought game on Friday as temperatures swung sharply cooler. Huntington took a 5-3 first period lead and held a 9-7 halftime advantage.

“For our first game of the season, I feel that we played well, but knew we could have done even better,” Weinschreider said. “There were parts where we played very good and if we are consistent with that, we will be going very far this year. The team’s energy was awesome, which kept us motivated and our four defenders had an amazing game. I was very happy with how much we shared the ball on offense. We had multiple different goal scores as well as multiple assists from different people which showed how many players are going to be a key to our success.”

It was Farmingdale’s first loss after notching wins against St. John the Baptist, 18-5 and Calhoun, 15-5.
