Three Huntington UFSD faculty and staff members were honored at SCOPE’s 24th annual school district awards dinner at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook.

Diana Rich (director of special education and student support services) captured the Administrator Service Award and Angela Berner (English language arts coordinator/Huntington Teacher Center director) claimed the Teacher Service Award. The festive evening was added by Huntington Superintendent Beth McCoy, Deputy Superintendent Christopher Hender, Assistant Superintendents Dr. Rubie Harris and Brenden Cusack, School Board President Xavier Palacios, School Board Vice President Michele Kustera and Trustee Theresa Sullivan.

Mrs. Berner will be retiring in June after more serving on the Huntington UFSD faculty for more than 40 years.

“Angela is a mentor to teachers, administrators and colleagues in the area of English language arts,” Mrs. McCoy said. “She provides high quality professional development to elementary staff and reading teachers, enhancing their understanding of the science of reading, literary and best instructional practices. Angela has played a pivotal role in selecting and implementing ELA programs and services that meet the diverse needs of our community. Angela’s impact is truly transformative.”

All three honorees are essential members of Team Huntington and all are valued and respected by their colleagues.

“Jorge Soto has been instrumental in helping oversee the district’s finances over the past seven years and ensuring thorough budget planning for annual capital projects, which has allowed us to sustain exceptional learning environments,” Mrs. McCoy said. “His financial expertise has been key in implementing process improvements, supporting state and federal reporting requirements and streamlining financial operations.
