Mean Girls Leaves Cast, Musicians and Stage Crew Exuberant
April 1, 2025
Every truly great acting performance deserves the cheers of the theater crowd and at least a few bows and there were plenty of both at last weekend’s Huntington High School drama club production of the musical, “Mean Girls.”
Three performances over the course of Friday and Saturday drew larger than usual crowds to the high school auditorium. The polished acting and spectacular pit orchestra along with the costumes, sets and lighting helped to create a show and atmosphere that any other high school would find hard to duplicate.
The show’s cast included (in order of appearance) Sofia Rodriguez, Josie Sullivan, Emily Kustera, Michaela Dopico, Walter Lopez, Lily Wasoski, Liva Camarata, Sam Soric, James Stensland, Michael Mendikyan, Mia Molina, Kyra Scott, Dennis McCook, Alex Tine, Deveren Flynn, Michael DiVencenzo, Alexa Schirripa, Dana Saramago, Caleigh Camarata, Alex Boeckman, Isabelle Gregorio, Maya Ackerman, Karina Rodriguez, Mason Gomez, Toni Reyes-Sorto, Alexa Mazure, Isaiah Bynum, Matthew Jimenez, Madeline Francis, Bella Duke, Lauren Dopico, Maggie O’Toole, Deandre Simmons, Mya Williams, Analia Bonilla, Illiana Jaramolowski, Sergio Portillo, Isabelle Cruz-Ponce and Angel Uceda-Enamorado.
“I couldn’t be happier with how the show concluded this year,” Dana Saramago said. “We had such a talented and fun cast and the show ended up being a hit! I feel that everything went really well and every really pulled through to the end.”
So many hours went into rehearsing the show and music, building the sets and attending to dozens of little details behind the scenes the curtain closed following the Saturday night show, everyone felt elated, but exhausted.
“I feel that everything went amazing in our shows,” Michaela Dopico said. “Everyone put their all into it and we had so much fun on stage. I couldn’t have asked for a better senior show. I’m so grateful for everyone’s hard work and talent, but also for how fun they made every moment of it.”
There were cheers and tears after the final show last weekend. “I think our production of ‘Mean Girls’ went extremely well,” Isabelle Gregorio said. “The energy in the cast was amazing and I truly believe that everyone put their best efforts into making the show the best it could possibly be! I am extremely proud of the outcome of our show. Everyone in the cast brings something special to our club and I couldn’t be more grateful that I get to perform with them. Our audience for each show seemed to enjoy it as well. Which made it all the more memorable.”
Theater-goers appreciate all the hard work that went into making the show a success. “I’m so happy to end this journey in the arts on a spectacular note,” Toni Reyes-Sorto said. “The play got a lot of attention than any other year and it felt wonderful to bring ‘Mean Girls’ to Huntington. Everyone that participated in the play was so dedicated and supportive of each other and that made it a true team effort. I hope everyone had a great time watching.”
Year after year the Huntington drama club stages a pair of shows; a drama or comedy in the fall and a musical in the spring. “I feel the show went amazingly,” Sofia Rodriguez said. “It took a lot of hard work to make everything audiences saw on stage come to life and I couldn’t be prouder of our entire team. Being this was my very last show with the high school drama club, everything has felt quite bittersweet. However, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience to go out with and I’m thrilled with what we left on that stage this weekend.”
The pit orchestra consisted of Hosun Moon, Rachel Huth, Christopher Wink, Hennri Guillen, Alexis Haas, Daniel Simon, Angelina Marcellino-LaQua, Felicity George, Jacob Boxer, Natalie Parrott, David Cruz Ponce, Marilyn Mendoza, Liam LaVertu, Chris Nunn, Cole Lima and Ben Soric.
The stage crew featured Chris A., Ethan Ambrosio, Isa Andrade, Logan Aspelsinov, Kellee Benitez, Jordana Boxer, Gianna Brady, Richard Davis, Charles Desrochers, Anya Goleski, Greyson H., Heather Herman, Matthew Jimenez, Eli Levi, Julian Miranda, Arly Moreira, Emma Mortensen, Ethan Mortensen, Jaxson Nappi, Taylor Nappi, Alejandro Orjuela, Christina Rey, Alexandra Ramos, Charlie Stanforth, Owen Stevens, Rebecca Stone and Logan Tine.
The drama club is a close-knit group comprised of many of the most talented teenagers at Huntington High School. They all took pride in last weekend’s production, which was attended by numerous district officials, including Superintendent Beth McCoy and Deputy Superintendent Christopher Hender.
