Finley Girls’ Track Completes Successful Season

May 30, 2024

Renewed interest in the J. Taylor Finley Middle School track and field team allowed the 32 athlete strong squad to enjoy a successful spring season.

Finley was coached by Tim Madden and Jordan Ioviero. The team was led by seventh graders Helena Sullivan, Leilani Dixon and Vivian Morrissey and eighth grader Hanna Boyle.

“Hanna Boyle is a great leader who gave maximum effort each and every day,” Madden said. “Helena Sullivan worked very hard to improve her personal best time in all her running events. Leilani Dixon is a very fast runner who enjoyed every moment she was at practice and meets. Vivian Morrissey improved greatly over the course of the season.”

Finley practiced behind the building on Greenlawn Road and had home meets on the Blue Devil Stadium track at Huntington High School.

“We had a great number of girls come out and compete each day, whether it was at practice or at a meet,” Madden said. “Each athlete strived to beat their personal best time or distance. Every meet we had we learned from and used that knowledge to improve as a group.”

Finley competed against Babylon, West Babylon, East Northport, Elwood, Great Hollow, Deer Park, Hauppauge and Kings Park.

“This group of girls approached each day with enthusiasm and competitiveness,” Madden said. “Each athlete gave effort to be the best they could be every day. The seventh grader that will return next year are very talented and will enjoy much success.”
