May 29, 2024
The Huntington boys’ track and field team is in the final stretch of the season. The Blue Devils finished fourth in last week’s county championships at Connetquot in the run-up to the state qualifier.
The 4x400m relay team consisting of lead leg Nick Rosan, second leg Titan Elysee, third Nikolai Lulewich, and anchor Jahmar Francis held on for first place defeating top ranked Bellport and North Babylon. Huntington finished in 3:24.32 with North Babylon second in 3:24.88 and Bellport third in 3:24.92.
Lulewich had an opportunity to earn All-County honors in three events. He placed second in the 400m hurdles in 56.42 seconds. “In the 110m high hurdles he ran a great race in the semis, but unfortunately he was a bit too jumpy in the 110m high hurdles and was disqualified for false starting,” head coach Ronald E. Wilson said.
Johan Fajardo placed second in high jump with a leap of 5-10 feet. Also earning points at the county meet in discus were John Genova and George Garcia who placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Sophomore Matt Ross earned a medal in shot put placing fourth with a throw of 43-10 feet.
Junior Carlos Marroquin earned All-County honors by placing third in long jump with a leap of 21-6.5 feet. Also earning bronze medals by placing third were Francis in the 400m dash (50.39) and Elysee in the 400m intermediate hurdles (57.22).
Freshman Eric Heinz continues to show that he is one of the top freshmen in the state. He competed in the pentathlon and earned a silver medal placing second with 2749 points. Junior Fernando Padilla of Connetquot won the event with 2954 points.
Wilson is hoping to get as many Blue Devils through the state qualifier and to the state championships as he can.
