Trustees Appoint Alan Groveman as Interim Superintendent

Huntington School Board members accepted the resignation of Christian Bowen as superintendent of schools on Wednesday and appointed Dr. Alan Groveman as interim superintendent.
Dr. Groveman has enjoyed a long career in education, beginning as a reading teacher at Campbell Junior High School in 1973. He’s worked as a high school dean of students, director of pupil personnel and director of special services, assistant superintendent for personnel, administration, business and finance and curriculum and instruction and superintendent of Connetquot CSD for nine years.
Since retiring from Connetquot, Dr. Groveman has worked in interim capacities at Valley Stream 13, Sachem, Lindenhurst, Garden City, Islip and Roosevelt.
Dr. Groveman obtained a BA in psychology/math at City University of New York and a Master of Science degree in school psychology at the University of Rhode Island. He earned M.Ed. and Ed.D degrees in education and education administration, respectively at Columbia University Teachers College.
Dr. Groveman has been the Section XI Finance Committee chairman since 2005. He has worked as an adjunct professor at St. John’s University and Stony Brook University. He currently serves on the Suffolk County Vocational Education Board.
