Washington Students Use Ozobots to Simulate Pollination

Washington Primary School second graders used Ozobots to simulate pollination during classes with librarian and technology specialist Rebecca Kraus.

Washington second graders worked with Ozobots to simulate pollination

Second grade teachers collaborated with Ms. Kraus on the initiative, delivering engaging and meaningful learning experiences to the youngsters, who naturally were excited and even fascinated with the project.

Ozobots are small robots that can be played with and programmed with or without screens. They are designed as an introduction to coding. Students use color combinations to move the ozobot on a path from one location to another.

Through this simulation, students observed how pollinators travel from flower to flower. The students observed how each ‘pollinator’ simulated the creation of a seed. Once their Ozobots completed a trip, students completed a data sheet that allowed them to form hypotheses about the color of each new flower. Through this learning experience, students were able to integrate technology into science concepts.

“At Washington Primary School, it is a priority that we provide multiple pathways for students to interact with complex concepts,” Ms. Kraus said. “Through this learning experience, students were able to interact with one another as they programed the Ozobots to act like potential pollinators.”
