Boys’ Track Senior Day at Blue Devil Stadium

May 14, 2024

Ron Wilson has worked hard to create a family atmosphere around the Huntington High School varsity boys’ track and field program and interviews with several seniors who have been mainstays on the winter and spring teams indicate the longtime Blue Devil coach has largely succeeded.

Huntington has put one of New York’s premier squads on the track annually for many years. This year, Wilson brought the Blue Devils to invitational competitions in Maryland and Philadelphia to expose them to many of the top high school athletes in the country and give them the motivation to continue training hard.

Senior Day at Blue Devil Stadium is always a festive affair. It provides a chance to recognize the teenagers who have made Huntington boys’ track and field such a formidable team. There was a large poster affectionately signed by the parents of the seniors and a post-meet party on the track near the field house.

Huntington’s seniors include Gabriel Abreu, Carmine Carusone, David Asher Dorilus Dax, Johan Fajardo Hernandez, Jayden Feliciano, John Genova, Ethan Goleski Nikolai Lulewich, Yovanni Rivera, Nicholas Rosan, Brayan Santos-Mendez and Marbin Vilorio.

Many of the seniors are not only sensational athletes, but great students academically, too. A large group of boys’ and girls’ track seniors was honored earlier this month at the high school’s Distinguished Seniors dinner, which recognizes those who have maintained grade averages of 90 or better during every semester of high school.

Making Senior Day at Blue Devil Stadium even more memorable was that Huntington easily bested visiting Smithtown West, 90-50. After the meet wrapped up, there were sandwiches, desserts and refreshments for the seniors and underclassmen, parents and coaches Ron Wilson, Eli Acosta and Haidee Gantz-Bonhurst and volunteer assistant Shane McGuire.

“These young men have earned this marvelous day for their commitment to our program and to being the best athletes and performers that they possibly can be,” Wilson said. “Each of them contributed to our success in their own special way. We will miss all of them. They will always be Blue Devils.”
