World Language Honor Societies Induct New Members

Huntington High School’s world language honor societies are proud organizations committed to recognizing student excellence and engaging in community service activities.

The French, Italian, Latin and Spanish honor societies held their annual induction ceremonies late last week, welcoming dozens of new members who are mastering a second or even a third language.

The evening attracted a crowd of parents and school officials and featured various time-honored rituals. Society faculty advisors Gina Trigian Molvaut (French), Natalia Kopshti (Italian), Kristin Fortunato (Latin) and Nadine Araoz (Spanish) looked on with pride as the teenagers recited their respective society’s pledge before the faculty members presented certificates to the newly inducted scholars.

The French Honor Society welcomed Kathleen Cocoman, Ryan Divico, Wynne Franciscovich, Spencer Krull, Anna McCormick, Laurie Moise, Samantha Muller and Claire Parks into its ranks.

The Italian Honor Society brought Max Carino, Vincenza Garofalo, Emely Herrera Rivas, Giovanna Lanfranco, Jaslyn Marroquin Chavez, Michael Mendikyan, Evan Persampire, Jaellyn Portillo Bueso, Vincent Pupillo, Luca Terrado, Alexander Tine, Heileen Torres, Belinda Velasquez Maldonado and Jolie Weinschreider into its fold.

The Latin Honor Society opened its arms to Charlotte Cassatto, Alexandra Centrone, William Donaghy, Chloe Donovan, Kate Gordon, Spencer James, Samuel Klaaren, Kaylee Mata, Thomas McMahon Jr., Nataly Posada Lopez, Cameron Smith, Aine Rimkunas and Lily Wasoski.

The new Spanish Honor Society members include Amy Andrade, Sabrina Boyle, Jordana Boxer, Jake Chiclacos, Isabella Cruz Ponce, Keysy Diaz Campos, Jeffrey Garcia Alvarez, Gabriela Genao, Oliver Gerberg, Janelee Gomez-Hernandez, Julia Goodwin, Nyah Grigg, Emma Gutierrez, Angelina Hernandez, Erika Hernandez Veliz, Mildred Hernandez Veliz, Manpreet Kaur, Jessica Lee, Olivia Lee, Nallely Linares Guardado, Nevin Maldonado, Jesley Martinez Canales, Cecilena Monge Moreira, Mindy Najera, Katie Sorto Cabrera, Anne Tyrrell, Myah Urena, Ella Van Horn and Gabriela Vilorio .

The evening included several musical performances, which included Jayden Feliciano (flute), Damaris Mani-Munoz (viola), Brooke Parks (piano) and Yliana Hernandez-Perla (vocalist) as well as a violin solo by Tyler Wheeler and soloist Mia Molina-Baptista performing “Bohémienne.”

Emily Kustera served as master of ceremonies. Zaida Correal offered short welcoming remarks. Charlotte Curtin led the candle ceremony.

Following the ceremony participants and their parents enjoyed refreshments in the auditorium lobby as they socialized and posed for photos during a reception that capped off a night recognizing exceptional academic achievement.
