Family STEM Night at Flower Hill School
May 7, 2024
A fun-filled STEM family night left the Flower Hill Primary School community feeling intellectually energized. From the glowing excitement in the glow room to the challenges in the escape room, every session was alive with enthusiasm.
“STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning builds skills that extend far beyond those needed in traditional science fields,” according to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. “Quality STEM experiences empower children to pursue varied interests, move into any industry with valuable skill sets and become a confident problem solver in any area of life.”
The well-planned evening offered students the mental challenges they thrive on. “We hope that these experiences spark curiosity and ignite passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” Flower Hill Principal Cindy Siegel said. “It was truly a successful evening in exploring and discovering together as a community.”
The STEM night activities were clearly about more than just science and math concepts. STEM “helps children discover real-world applications, spark their creativity and develop 21st century skills including media and technology literacy, productivity, social skills, communication, flexibility and initiative,” according to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. “STEM learning also promotes critical thinking, curiosity, persistence, decision-making, leadership, entrepreneurship, acceptance of failure and more. Regardless of a child’s career aspirations, these skill sets will go a long way in preparing them for their future.”
