Senior Ethan Goleski Chooses University at Buffalo
May 3, 2024
Huntington High School senior Ethan Goleski is heading 400 miles north for college. The teenager plans to study nursing at the University at Buffalo on his way to pursuing a career as a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
“I really like the overall atmosphere and set-up of the UB campus, plus it’s a flagship university of the State University of New York system and it has an excellent nursing program,” Mr. Goleski said. “I want to get my Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at UB and then work toward getting my doctorate to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist.”
Honored as one of Huntington’s Distinguished Seniors after compiling a grade average of 90 or better during every semester of high school, Mr. Goleski said he has always found a way to push through even in the face of multiple adversities facing him.
“I started Huntington in first grade at Southdown Primary School,” Mr. Goleski said. “I’ve had a really good run academically and in my sports career. I developed very positive relationships with many of my teachers over the years who have helped me become a better student and person. A few notable teachers that have influenced me positively and who I will miss are Mrs. [Danielle] Raguzin, Mrs. [Patricia} Avelli and Mrs. [Lorena] Hickey. I’ve also appreciated the guidance of coaches [John] Romano, [Eli] Acosta, [Ronald] Wilson and [Shane] McGuire for all the ways they’ve helped me succeed in my four years on varsity cross country and track. I’ve loved being a part of these teams and made some really great friends over the years. It’s felt like a family to me.”
Mr. Goleski has been running on Huntington’s cross country and track teams since the eighth grade. He has been inducted in the high school’s National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Science Honor Society.
Working hard even while very busy has been one of the keys to Mr. Goleski’s success. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience of training alongside longtime cross country and track teammate Matteo Armstrong, who graduated last June.
Mr. Goleski said he’s “always enjoyed making new friends in high school,” especially during his senior year when “a lot of doors opened” up for him.
Those who know him well expect Mr. Goleski to win over a whole new set of admirers at the University at Buffalo as he goes about chasing down his academic and career dreams.
