Blue Devil Baseball Fundraiser on Saturday at Repeal XVIII

Huntington UFSD’s four baseball coaches are striving to build something special. There’s renewed interest in the sport this spring with larger turnouts than in the past for the varsity, junior varsity and middle school teams and with more than 40 players down to the early elementary grade levels participating in a weekly winter clinic.

The Blue Devil baseball program is holding a fundraiser on Saturday (May 4) from 1:40-4:30 p.m. at Repeal XVIII at 30 New Street in the village. The donation is $25 per person. There will be a cash bar and raffles to support the program. All proceeds will be deposited into the Blue Devil Baseball club account.

The Huntington baseball program is more than 100 years old. Originally a town team was fielded, including non-Huntington High School students and even alums. Once the athletic program was formally organized in 1910, the team practiced and played in nearby open fields.

Eventually, the team found a permanent home across the street from the high school at Heckscher Park. There was during the era when Huntington High School was located on Main Street in the building that is now utilized as Town Hall. Outdoor physical education classes and athletic teams all used the Heckscher Park fields.

The team currently has four new coaches in varsity head coach John Romano and varsity assistant coach Eric Garcia. Nicholas Matarazzo is the junior varsity coach and Thomas Tantillo is the coach of the J. Taylor Finley Middle School baseball team.
