Articulate Senior Duo Capture Advocacy Scholarships

June 27, 2024

If you’ve ever been in a debate with Huntington High School seniors Katherine Estrada-Morales or Reese Rinaldi it didn’t take you long to realize that winning is impossible. The two articulate teachers can verbally joust with the best of them, quickly whipping together an unbeatable argument.

Ms. Estrada-Morales and Ms. Rinaldi both captured LoTurco & Palacios Oral Advocacy Scholarships for their ability to formulate, articulate and “sell” their positions to others. Each of the scholarships carried a $1,500 stipend.

Huntington alums John LoTurco and Xavier Palacios, both attorneys who have served as volunteer legal advisors for the high school’s mock trial program sponsored the awards. Mr. LoTurco made the formal scholarship presentations before a crowd of 300 at this year’s senior scholarships and awards ceremony in the auditorium.

The scholarship is available to Huntington High School students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their community through participation in activities such as debate team, mock trial, Model UN, Virtual Enterprise, student government or any other program that exemplifies oral advocacy.

Ms. Estrada-Morales will be attending Farmingdale State University and studying computer science. She is a four-year Class of 2024 president, marching band section leader, varsity girls’ soccer player and all-around sensational young woman. She has strong opinions and has the ability to express them in an impressive manner.

Ms. Rinaldi played on the varsity soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. She intends to study sociology at the University of Georgia and ultimately aspires to a career in law. Secretary for the high school’s student government and National Honor Society treasurer, the teenager loves a good argument and the process of advocating for her point of view.
