H-ton Girls’ Cross Country Duo Presented Awards

June 26, 2024

Longtime Huntington High School cross country team runners Jannel Marroquin and Jessica Kuom were both honored at the 56th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony before a crowd of 300 in the auditorium.

Huntington head coach Elizabeth Andersen presented the Coaches Award to Ms. Marroquin and the Most Improved Award to Ms. Kuom. Both have been mainstays in the Blue Devil program for many years.

Ms. Marroquin plans to attend Providence College and study biology/biological science with a minor in education. She said that staying on top of her schoolwork and attending classes with a positive mindset and ready to learn have been the keys to her success. Her ambition to always do better is what keeps her motivated and moving forward.

Ms. Kuom plans to spend a semester at Farmingdale State University before transferring to Manhattan College where she intends to study marketing. The teenager is eyeing a career in social media marketing.

“Being in Huntington definitely helped me grow into the person I am today,” Ms. Kuom said. “I’m very grateful to have been able to complete my four years here as a student and athlete.”

The two teammates enjoyed a fulfilling and productive relationship with Coach Andersen. They were both leaders on the team and will be sorely missed next fall.
