This is an exciting time in Sophie Lang’s life. The Huntington High School senior will graduate in a few days before making final preparations to move on with her education at the University of Kentucky where she intends to study finance.

“I chose the University of Kentucky because of the different location, people and the quality of the business school,” Ms. Lange said. “I knew in my mind that I didn’t want to stay local, but still have a piece of home with me wherever I went so UK was the best choice. Since my older brother already goes to UK we will have two years together just like high school. When I visited it several times, I’ve found the people were the most inviting part of my trip and made you feel right at home. I experienced a southern football game and fell in love with it and the whole school spirit the people bring wherever they go makes you want to join in on the fun.”

Ms. Lange said her success can be attributed to the strong support system provided by her teachers, family and friends. More than anything, she wants to make all of them proud. A clap or a “good job” has helped motivate the teenager from time to time.

Secretary of both the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, Ms. Lange was recognized as a Distinguished Senior this past spring after compiling a sterling academic grade average. A varsity letter winner with both the Blue Devil field hockey and golf teams, the senior has found time to volunteer with the Family Service League and the YMCA’s pre-school program.

“My experience at Huntington will live forever with me my entire life,” Ms. Lange said. “I’ve built long lasting friendships and relationships with teachers who have supported me throughout my four years and pushed my learning capacity to a maximum. Every day I step into that school I know it will be great because the people at Huntington make it what the school should feel like for everyone. Not only in the classrooms but on the sports fields as well. I met my best friends playing field hockey and will always remember those memories we made in Blue Devil uniforms.”
