June 21, 2024
Senior Jada Joseph is this year’s recipient of Huntington High School’s Outstanding Achievement in Photography Award. Art teacher Kim Valerio made the presentation at the recent academic awards and scholarships ceremony in the auditorium.
Ms. Joseph is a remarkably creative and talented young woman with a real flair for photography. She has studied for years with Huntington art teacher Pamela Piffard-Williams, who leads the high school’s photography program.
Recognized as a Distinguished Senior this spring after compiling an academic grade average of at least a 90 during every semester of high school, Ms. Joseph cites her time management and organizational skills as the keys to her success.
Since beginning kindergarten 13 years ago at Southdown Primary School, Ms. Joseph has been a faculty favorite and a student standout. She is headed to the University of Maryland College Park to study neuroscience and behavioral biology.
“Not procrastinating, taking advantage of all opportunities and long nights of studying” have all contributed to her achievements, Ms. Joseph said. She has especially enjoyed discovering new interests, making new friends, building relationships with her teachers and participating in several clubs.
A Social Studies Honor Society executive board member, Ms. Joseph has also volunteered with Huntington’s Habitat for Humanity club chapter, participating in housing builds along with fellow club members. A Long Island Scholar Arts for Media Art (photography), the teenager has sharpened her skills behind the lens over the years.
