Huntington Booster Club Presents $4,000 in Scholarships

June 17, 2024

The Huntington Booster Club presented four graduating seniors with $1,000 sportsmanship scholarship awards. This year’s recipients are all distinguished in their own right and have been well received goodwill ambassadors for Huntington High School and the Blue Devils while remaining determined competitors.

The four scholarships were presented at the 56th Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony.

“We would like to express our appreciation to the Huntington Booster Club for its exceptional support of the Blue Devil athletic program this year,” said Michael Schwendemann, master of ceremonies. “The organization has again awarded thousands of dollars in grants covering multiple male and female teams. The group works closely with the athletic office and coaches to enhance the program offered to Huntington students.”

Huntington Booster Club President Dave Evans, Treasurer Wayne Ackerman and Secretary Sue Fallon were on hand for Thursday night’s presentation before a crowd of more than 300.

This year’s honorees include Katherine Estrada-Morales, Ella O’Heir, Bryan Lizama and Nikolai Lulewich. Ms. Estrada-Morales, who is the president of Huntington’s Class of 2024, will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. Ms. O’Heir is headed to Fairfield University in Connecticut. Ms. Lizama will be attending SUNY New Paltz. Ms. Lulewich will be studying at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania.

The Booster Club derives its income from the sale of banners affixed to the fence surrounding Blue Devil Stadium; concessions at large athletic events, summer camps and individual and corporate donations. A fall fundraiser at The Paramount in the village was a major source of this past year’s fundraising.
