Blue Devil Athletes Capture Suffolk Gold Keys

June 14, 2024

A group of 17 spectacular Huntington High School athletes was presented with Section XI Gold Key awards at the 56th Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony in the auditorium on Thursday night

The Gold Key is the highest honor a Suffolk athlete can receive for sports participation. Last year, only 11 Huntington senior athletes qualified for the designation. This year’s Blue Devil recipients include Gabriel Abreu, Carmine Carusone, David Dorilus Dax, Jahmar Francis, John Genova, Thomas Girimonti, Tyler Godin, Ethan Goleski, Yuliana Hernandez-Perla, Jessica Kuom, Nikolai Lulewich, Jessica Maixner, Andrea Mani-Munoz, Damaris Mani-Munoz, Jannel Marroquin, Reese Rinaldi and Gradon Sosnowski.

Huntington Superintendent Beth M. McCoy formally presented each recipient with a plaque and a small Gold Key charm. The Gold Key is a Section XI award emphasizing participation in interscholastic athletics while recognizing proficiency in performance.

The award is presented at every Suffolk high school to students who have lettered in eight of nine seasons on varsity or junior varsity teams between their sophomore and senior years.

The award recipients are all essentially three-season athletes, something that the Huntington athletic program and Blue Devils hope to see more of.

The 17 seniors came together for a photo with Mrs. McCoy to commemorate the occasion and their achievement.
