June 14, 2024
Principal Brenden Cusack presented the Blue Devil Discipline, Desire and Dedication Awards at Huntington High School’s 56th annual senior athletic awards ceremony on Thursday night in the auditorium.
The 10 recipients who received the award “all played important roles on their teams,” master of ceremonies Michael Schwendemann told the crowd. “This award goes to those who didn’t get their names in the headlines, but without them, their teams wouldn’t have been successful.”
This year’s award recipients include Kaedon Halbeisen, Dante Salgado, Hannah Song, Lily Mitek, Casey DiGioia, Edwin Marroquin, Cristian Alfaro-Bueso, Marbin Vilorio, Sophie Lange and Elizabeth Stair.
“It’s not only what happens on game day, but the interactions with coaches and teammates and practices and away from the field,” Mr. Schwendemann told the crowd. “All seven of these seniors contributed in their own special way. Maybe they thought no one was watching or no one cared. But we did see them and we admire everything they did to make our teams successful.”
Mr. Halbeisen will be attending Coastal Carolina University with Mr. Salgado is headed to SUNY Buffalo State. Ms. Song will be studying at the University of Connecticut and Ms. Mitek will be pursuing a degree at the University of Delaware. Ms. DiGioia, Mr. Marroquin and Mr. Vilorio will all be attending Suffolk County Community College. Mr. Alfaro-Bueso will pursue a degree at Farmingdale State College.
