The teenager said that taking advantage of the myriad of resources provided at Huntington High School has been the key to her success. Ms. Maixner has developed relationships with teachers that have continuously paid dividends and she never hesitates to ask questions and they are always ready to give the senior answers.

“I chose SUNY Cortland because the second I stepped foot on campus I fell in love,” Ms. Maixner said. “The atmosphere, school spirit and just everything about the school was exactly what I wanted. For the longest time I wanted to be a lawyer, but then I started getting into more of the forensics and criminal side of things and I knew I wanted to be more hands-on so criminology is perfect. One day I hope to be somewhere in the law enforcement field or on a crime scene helping to solve cases.”

Ms. Maixner is one of a very small number of seniors who qualified for the Section XI Gold Key Award this year as someone who has played in a minimum of eight of nine possible athletic seasons over the course of grades 10-12. The teenager earned varsity athletic letters in soccer, basketball and softball. She said she has been proud to wear a Blue Devil uniform in three sports for all four years.

The senior has devoted a significant amount of time serving in leadership positions for several service organizations at the high school, including Grandfriends, Interact, A World of Difference and Habitat for Humanity.

A member of the National Honor Society and Math Honor Society, Ms. Maixner garnered the designation of Distinguished Senior after compiling an academic grade average of 90 or better during every semester of high school. She is a New York State Scholar Athlete.

Attending sports games, dances and every other possible event over the past four years and given Ms. Maixner a high school experience she will always remember.
