Huntington UFSD Honors Retiring Employees
June 6, 2024
The Huntington School Board paid tribute to employees retiring during the 2023/24 school year during a public meeting this past Monday night at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School.
Huntington School Board President Xavier Palacios presided over the festivities, which recognized 21 different employees representing five different job categories. Many of the retiring employees were joined by family members.
The retirees include:
Aides: Meryl McGovern
Teachers/Administrators: Suzanne Catrini, Deborah Beck, Nina DiGioia, Cynthia Fletcher, Claudia Gonzalez, Dimaris Ortega, Amy Hughes, Barbara Noble
Clericals: Lorraine Brogan, Bik Eng-Bialkowski, Wanda Gonzalez, Francine Honahan, Lisa Suriano, Demetra Doscas, Janine Johnson
Custodians: Claude Smith, Joseph Soto, William Wright
Food Service: Anita Johnson, Barbara Amore
Together members of the group devoted hundreds of years of service to Huntington UFSD and its students and programs. Each of the retirees was called to the front of the auditorium where they were presented with flowers and thanked for their service.
Many of the retirees reside in the district. Some have already signed on to return as substitute employees on an as needed basis.
The family members in attendance helped swell the crowd this past Monday night. Once the presentations were complete the group assembled outside in the lobby and posed for a commemorative group photograph.
