Washington Third Grades Study Animal Life Cycles
June 5, 2024
Washington Primary School third graders in teacher Vivian Joseph’s class were fascinated during an animal life cycles science unit. The mystery and wonder associated with the new material whetted the youngster’s educational appetites.
“Students worked in groups and selected a specific animal to research and explore its unique life cycle stages,” Mrs. Joseph explained. “After gathering their research, students used their findings to create an interactive and informative Google Slides presentation.”
The third graders’ presentations showcased the key stages of the animal’s life cycle, intriguing facts, and visually engaging images to enhance understanding.
“Through this project, students not only deepened their knowledge of animal life cycles but also developed research skills, digital literacy and presentation abilities.”
Washington Principal Dr. Michelle Richards wholeheartedly embraced the initiative and was pleased with the excitement it generated among the students.
“This hands-on project fostered creativity, critical thinking and collaboration among my third-grade students as they shared their newfound knowledge with their peers,” Mrs. Joseph said.
“Animal life cycles may include egg, larva, baby, child or young animal, nymph, teenager, young adult, mature adult, parent with children and old adult,” according to LEGO Education.
The value of studying life cycles is clear. “As students explore different types of life cycles and compare and contrast the stages within them, they will develop an understanding of and appreciation for the diversity of life on Earth,” according to Let’s Talk Science.
