Career Day Fun at Woodhull Intermediate School
June 5, 2024
Brought back to life last year for the first time following a pandemic related absence, Woodhull Intermediate School’s Career Day recently offered a variety of insights to more than 400 fourth, fifth and sixth graders, who had fun exploring dozens of possible future opportunities.
“Career Day gives students an up-close look at different career paths and connects their learning to the real world,” Principal Stephanie Campbell said. “Leaders, community and family members come into the classroom to share insights about their career and details about necessary education and training for career success. Students have the opportunity to listen to presenters, ask questions, and consider what careers pique their interest.”
Woodhull teachers Woodhull teachers, Paula Gasparino, Keith Meyers and Vincenza Caruso coordinated the event in each of the past two years. It’s a full-day event where students have the opportunity to learn about different career paths and occupations.
Students choose four different sessions to attend throughout the day where they engage in interactive presentations about specific careers presented by Woodhull community and family members.
“Leading up to the event, students participated in a Career Spirit Week,” Ms. Campbell said. “They engaged in activities to help them develop awareness and excitement about possible future pathways.”
This year’s event saw 42 separate careers represented including news reporter, floral designer, chef, forensic scientist, architect, construction manager, anesthesiologist, restaurant server, law enforcement officer, hair stylist and dozens more.
Huntington School Board members Bill Dwyer and Theresa Sullivan participated along with new Superintendent Beth M. McCoy and Deputy Superintendent Christopher J. Hender.
“Career Day is one of my favorite days at Woodhull,” Ms. Campbell said. “You can feel the excitement around the building by both students and adults. Having community and family members teach our students and connect their education to real world opportunities is priceless. Career Day is just one example of what makes Woodhull a great place to learn and grow.”
