Kimberly Panameno Captures Principal’s Award

July 31, 2024

Kimberly Panameno has captured this year’s Huntington High School Principal’s Award. The Class of 2024 member plans to study at St. Joseph’s University in Patchogue for a career as a Spanish teacher.

Principal Brenden Cusack made the award presentation during a ceremony in the high school auditorium. “In my ninth year of bestowing the prestigious Principal’s Award, I find myself once again confronted with the challenging task of selecting a singular student from the pool of remarkable individuals that make up the graduating class,” Mr. Cusack said. “Each year, as I reflect on the exceptional talents and contributions of our students, the weight of this decision only seems to grow heavier.”

Mr. Cusack said the senior scholarships and awards ceremony “has served as a clear reminder of the abundance of talent and excellence” displayed by the graduating seniors.

“Yet, amidst this sea of outstanding individuals, one student has consistently stood out in my mind,” Mr. Cusack said. “This student is not only hardworking and compassionate but also possesses a quiet strength and grace that inspires those around her. Through her kindness and her commitment to service, she has become a leader at Huntington High School.”

Co-president of the New World Club in each of the past two years, Ms. Panameno helped students new to the US adapt to Huntington High School and life in America. She won awards in consecutive years in the National History Day contest and was recognized as a Distinguished Senior.

“In my interactions with her as part of the Principal’s Advisory Council, I have been continually impressed by her thoughtful insights and innovative ideas,” Mr. Cusack said. “Her dedication to the betterment of our school community is continuously very clear.”

A scholarship in the amount of $1,000 accompanied the award. The stipend was funded by Gil Sacks of Jo-Art Photographers. “This award serves as a testament to Kimberly’s outstanding achievements and unwavering commitment to excellence,” Mr. Cusack said.

Ms. Panameno said her time management skills have allowed her to create a balance between her school activities and those outside of her classes and clubs. She has enjoyed pushing herself in Advanced Placement courses, but she’s ready for a new challenge at college.

“Kimberly, your remarkable contributions to our school community have not gone unnoticed, and it is with the utmost admiration and gratitude that I present you with this well-deserved award,” said Mr. Cusack, speaking directly to Ms. Panameno. “May you continue to inspire those around you with your compassion, leadership and your dedication to service.”
