NYS School Business Officials Award Presented to Sophie Lange

July 22, 2024

The Association of School Business Officials of New York has awarded Huntington High School Class of 2024 member Sophie Lange with a $500 scholarship in recognition of her exceptional achievements and future potential in the field of business.

Superintendent Beth M. McCoy presented the award on behalf of Huntington UFSD Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Management Services Dr. Rubie Harris during Huntington High School’s senior scholarship and awards night ceremony.

Founded in 1948, ASBO New York’s members are recognized as experts in school finance and operations and leaders in education. The organization supports the professional growth of its members and serves as the leading resource on school finance statewide while advocating for quality education for all students. The group boasts about 2,600 members representing 659 school districts and BOCES units and 300 companies.

Dr. Harris serves on the board of directors of the New York State Association of School Business Officials.

An engaging young woman, Ms. Lange plans to study finance at the University of Kentucky. A member of multiple academic honor societies, she was recognized as a Distinguished Senior after excelling during every semester of high school.

Ms. Lange credits her success to the strong support system that surrounds her, including teachers, family and friends. Her No. 1 goal is to make them all proud.

Secretary of both the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, Ms. Lange participated in Huntington’s award winning Investment Club, volunteered at the Family Service League and YMCA pre-school program and played on the Blue Devil varsity field hockey and golf teams. The teenager said she will “never forget” the lifelong friendships she’s created with some of her teammates.
