Principal Presents Alumni Cups to Dynamic Duo

July 10, 2024

Huntington High School Principal Brenden Cusack presented this year’s coveted Alumni Cups to Class of 2024 members Thomas Girimonti and Reese Rinaldi. The two three-sport athletes also served a variety team and club leadership positions.

Mr. Cusack made the much anticipated announcement and presentation at the close of the senior scholarships and awards night in the high school auditorium. A crowd of 300 expressed its approval of Mr. Girimonti and Ms. Rinaldi with hearty applause.

President of the Blue Devil Varsity Club, Mr. Girimonti played key roles on Huntington’s golf, basketball and lacrosse teams, winning All-American honors in the latter. He was recruited to play lacrosse at Wesleyan University where he plans to study economics.

The teenager said he owes his success to his time management skills. An Advanced Placement Scholar, Mr. Girimonti was a member of four academic honor societies. He is a multi-time New York State Scholar Athlete Award recipient after maintaining a grade average of 90 or better during every athletic season.

He said he has especially enjoyed his high school athletic career because through his three sports he had developed all of the core relationships in his life. Athletic department officials praised Mr. Girimonti’s competitiveness and work ethic and said he has been a “marvelous representative of Huntington and the Blue Devils.”

Ms. Rinaldi is equally distinguished. She, too, is an Advanced Placement Scholar and has been inducted into numerous honor societies. Treasurer of the Class of 2024 and secretary of the school-wide student government, she also captained the soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. One of the top student photographers at the high school, she also served as treasurer of Huntington’s National Honor Society chapter.

The key to her success has been “being involved,” Ms. Rinaldi said, adding that it has helped her learn how to manage her time and work efficiently. She regularly garnered New York State Scholar Athlete Awards season after season over the past four years.

Ms. Rinaldi plans to study sociology at the University of Georgia in preparation for law school.
