July 5, 2024

Lily Tierney has garnered Huntington High School’s English Honor Society Award after leading the organization over the past year as its president. The teenager plans to attend Binghamton University and study art history.

An Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor and a Distinguished Senior, Ms. Tierney was inducted into multiple honor societies. English teacher Michael Schwendemann presented her with the English Honor Society Award during a senior awards ceremony in the high school auditorium.

Ms. Tierney cites her ability to balance academics and her social life as a key to her success. She believes “it is essential to find happiness in educational pursuits, friends and hobbies.” She said that understanding that hard work goes hand in hand with prioritizing mental health changed her outlook on high school.

A mainstay in the high school drama club, Ms. Tierney appeared on stage in every show since she was a freshman. She has tutored bilingual elementary grade level students in English on the weekend and displayed kindness and consideration toward her classmates and everyone else at the high school and in the community.

Ms. Tierney has especially enjoyed Advanced Placement Environmental Science and AP Literature classes. She is always ready for a challenge and also prepared and willing to help anyone who needs it.
