Rylee Davis Wins Excellence in Research Award

July 5, 2024

Rylee Davis has captured the Huntington High School National History Day Excellence in Research Award. The Class of 2024 member was honored at the senior academic awards ceremony in the auditorium. The teenager was presented with a $150 award stipend by Chairman of Humanities Joseph Leavy.

Ms. Davis plans to attend Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She was recognized last spring as a Distinguished Senior after tallying an academic grade average in excess of 90 during every semester of high school.

The teenager believes that most of her success can be traced to the “incredible support” of her teachers. Ms. Davis said those teachers allowed her to explore a variety of subjects, exposing her to her own potential.

Volunteering with Huntington’s Key Club and Habitat for Humanity chapters and penning articles for The Dispatch, the high school’s student newspapers has been especially rewarding.

Ms. Davis said her teachers encouraged her academic and personal growth. She is “extremely grateful for every single teacher who has dedicated their time and resources” to her education over the past four years.

Traveling to New Orleans with the Habitat for Humanity club and working there on housing projects is a cherished memory.

An Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, Ms. Davis has compiled an enviable academic record. A well-liked and hardworking young woman, she will missed around the high school next year.
