Senior Harry Baliber to Play Baseball at SUNY New Paltz
January 30, 2024
Harry Baliber does everything with passion. The Huntington High School senior has been one of the Blue Devils’ best on the basketball court as well as behind the plate catching for the baseball team. He’s Mr. Steady and a leader among his teammates while being just as solid academically.
Mr. Baliber played on the first Huntington baseball team in six decades to win the Suffolk championships. This year he is playing a crucial role in both basketball and baseball as the two teams transition to new eras.
Never shy of working hard, Mr. Baliber enjoys the training that goes along with playing at a high level. He’s wanted to play baseball on the college level for many years and after committing to SUNY New Paltz, he will have an opportunity to suit up.
“I chose to play at New Paltz for many reasons,” Mr. Baliber said. “I’ve always wanted to play college baseball and New Paltz was the best fit for me. It has a great baseball program and is close to home. It is a good academic fit for me as it has very good education and business programs, which are two majors I am considering. It also has a beautiful campus and a very nice village.”
Mr. Baliber has been a Huntington UFSD regular ever since he began kindergarten at Washington Primary School. He’s always been popular with his teachers, who appreciate his intellect and enjoy his sly sense of humor.
“There’s been many highlights during my time at Huntington, but the ones that standout the most are from sports,” Mr. Baliber said. “I have tons of memories from baseball and basketball that I’ll never forget and that I’m very grateful for.”
The teenager has an easy way about him. He gets along with everyone. He’s been a playmaker this winter for a Blue Devil basketball team that has surprised many by how competitive it has been.
“My experience at Huntington has been great,” Mr. Baliber said. “Everyone I’ve met here has been great and helped make me into the person I am today.”
The senior is proud to attend Huntington High School and don its colors in the athletic arena. When he moves on to New Paltz, he will retain a special place in his heart for his hometown and everyone he’s crossed paths with through the years.
“The thing I’ll remember the most about being a Blue Devil are all the relationships I’ve made with teammates and coaches through sports,” Mr. Baliber said. “I’ve made tons of great memories wearing a Huntington uniform.”
