Finley Girls’ Basketball Takes the Court

January 25, 2024

An exciting new season is underway for the two girls’ basketball teams at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. Tryouts are complete and players have been evenly divided between to the two squads, which are both comprised of seventh and eighth graders.

Finley-Blue is coached by Flower Hill teacher Timothy Madden while Finley-White is coached by Finley teacher Hildi Stanford. The teams practice and play their home games at Finley. The home games will be livestreamed on the Finley Blue Devil Sports YouTube channel.

Finley’s school colors are blue and white, like the rest of Huntington UFSD. As such, Section XI designated one of Finley’s two boys’ basketball teams as “blue” and the other as “white.” Madden’s squad was designated as the “blue” team.

The Finley-Blue team’s roster includes seventh graders Valentina Diaz, Leah Edwards, Shea Gilroy, Riley Lewis, Michelle Jean Baptiste, Gwendolyn Nelson, Isabella Ulloa and Briana Velis Figueroa; and eighth graders Claire Dello-Iacono, Mo’Nayah Dennis, Khloe Graham, Timeyah Hardge, Cassidy Harris, Jaylah Morgan Page, Violet Palacios and Nicolina Ulloa.

The Finley-White roster features seventh graders Brianna Purcell, Kaitlyn Purcell, Mikayla Blizzard, Arielle Melendez, Charlotte Krause, Thania Guardado, Darphyna Augustin, Milania Watelier, Dayana Cruz Melendez and Gianna Parides; and eighth graders Ava Bencivenga, Juliet Johnson, Ava Vega, Matison Kindelmann, Ali Brady and Melody Pierre.

The two teams will both play 10 game schedules, evenly split between home and away contests. Finley-Blue and Finley-White will play each other as well as East Northport, Kings Park, Moses-White, Moses-Blue, Commack-Gold, Commack-White, Babylon and Hauppauge. Finley-Blue will also play against Elwood with Finley-White taking the court against Northport.
