Tri-M Honor Society Inducts 32 New Members

Huntington High School’s Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter welcomed 32 new members during Wednesday night’s induction ceremony in the auditorium.

The new class of Tri-M members includes Sonia Acevedo, Ethan Ambrosio, Kellee Benitez, Lily Buscemi, Charlotte Cassatto, Kevin Dominguez, Jayden Feliciano, Isabelle Gregorio, Ruby Hoffman, Elizabeth James, Matthew Jimenez, Mia Kaufman, Manpreet Kaur, Sena Knopf, Jeremyah Leiva, Angel Uceda-Enamorado, Naomi Lyons, Jannel Marroquin, Alexa Mazure, Marilyn Mendoza, Neurdia Osias, Claire Parks, Natalie Parrott, Anthony Retamal Vidal, Chelsea Romero, Dana Saramago, Daniel Simon, Jaipreet Singh, Ben Soric, James Stensland, Alexander Tine and Lily Wasoski,

The name Tri-M is derived from the international honor society’s original name: Modern Music Masters. Candidates for membership are required to demonstrate scholarship, achievement, leadership and service. The group has traditionally been one of Huntington’s most active and prestigious honor societies.

This year’s Tri-M leadership team includes executive board members Jake Amend (president), Emily Kustera (vice president), William Berry (treasurer), Amalia Heinz (secretary) and Nina Facilla (historian). Teacher James DiMeglio serves as the organization’s faculty advisors.

Short musical performances dotted the induction ceremony, which was attended by parents, friends and faculty members. Performers during the ceremony included Ms. Heinz, Ms. Kustera, Ms. Fascilla and Mr. Amend.

The crowd included Superintendent Christian Bowen, Principal Brenden Cusack, Assistant Principals Gamal Smith and Trish Avelli and Huntington School Board Vice President Michele Kustera.

Brooklyn-based artist, musician, educator and wearer of many hats Derek J. Weagle was this year’s guest speaker. Huntington’s Tri-M Music Honor Society is designated by the national office as Chapter 2198.

To qualify for Tri-M membership students must be enrolled in at least one music class for at least one semester, have at least a 2.0 grade point average in their core classes and a 3.0 in their music classes and be of strong character.

Huntington students are also required to perform a NYSSMA solo or ensemble selection at a Level 5 scoring 95 or above, Level 6 scoring 94 or above or Level 6 All-State scoring 93 or above in the school year prior to submitting their application.
