Blue Devils Invited to Compete at Cupid for the Cure Dance

January 12, 2024

The Huntington High School Key Club and the English Honor Society chapter are teaming up to host a winter dance, “Cupid for the Cure.” Every student is invited to attend with a special request for winter sports season athletes.

The dance is set for Friday, February 9 from 6-9 p.m. Advance sale tickets are priced at $5 with tickets at the door going for $10. All monies raised at the dance will be donated to children battling cancer at Stony Brook Hospital.

Organizers are asking Blue Devil winter sports teams to participate in the affair by doing a competitive team dance routine to showcase their spirit and talent. The whole team can perform or just selected members.  The dance routine is limited to three minutes in length and the team needs to supply the music prior to the event.

“We encourage the team to be as creative as possible because they are competing with the other winter sports teams to win the competition,” said Kelly Krycinski, who along with fellow Huntington English teacher Gina Colica serves as the Key Club’s co-faculty advisor.

The winning team will receive a prize from the Rachel's Dance for the Cure Foundation. The organization was founded by Huntington High School English teacher Aimee Antorino following the loss of her daughter, Rachel to leukemia in August 2018 when she was just 14 years old.

In her memory, Ms. Antorino created the foundation, Rachel’s Dance for the Cure to help relieve the financial burden placed on families of pediatric cancer patients. Visit www.rachelsdanceforthecure.org to learn more about the organization, which accepts donations year-round.

“We are asking all coaches of winter sports to promote this event,” Ms. Colica said. “It’s a great way for the team to showcase their sport and team spirit while demonstrating philanthropy.”

Teams/athletes should let the Key Club know by Friday, January 19 if they plan to participate in the contest. Players on competing teams will be admitted free to the dance. “We simply ask that the team make a donation of $10 to perform,” Ms. Krycinski said. “This means only $10 will be collected from each team that competes.”

Teams should email their music to Michael Zigon (mzigon@hufsd.edu) by Friday, February 2.
