Huntington Seniors Encouraged to Apply for Scholarships

Huntington High School teachers and administrators are encouraging every member of the Class of 2024 to apply for one or more scholarship award programs. Over the course of the next six months, hundreds of such scholarship opportunities will be announced and made available to the seniors.

Below are some of the initial scholarship programs for which Huntington Class of 2024 members can submit an application.

This week’s featured scholarship opportunities include:

The Architect’s Foundation awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school students, architectural students in NAAB-accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs and Architect Registration Exam (ARE) candidates who are working toward becoming licensed architects.

A multiyear scholarship of up to $20,000 supports high school and undergraduate minority students. Students must visit https://architectsfoundation.org/af-scholarship-applications-now-open/ to apply. The application deadline is January 19.

The College Board Opportunity Scholarship program has $5 million available annually. The more effort you put in, the more opportunities you have to earn a scholarship. Complete all six and you’re eligible to earn $40,000.

Scholarships will be awarded through monthly drawings to students of Classes 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 who complete each action; i.e. building your college list. For more information students should visit https://opportunity.collegeboard.org.

The Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York awards four scholarships annually in the amount of $1,500 each to graduating high school seniors who plan to attend a two or four year institution of higher education and will be pursuing a community service related career. This may include but is not limited to fire service, EMS, nursing, social work, health related services, teaching, paramedic, etc.

Interested students should visit https://www.afdsny.org/application.php. The application deadline is March 2.

The Gerald J. Buckenmayer FASNY Volunteer Scholarship program offers 25 scholarships in the amount of $1,500 to young volunteer firefighters who plan to continue their post-secondary education.

Interested students should visit https://fasny.com/awards/scholarship for more information. The application deadline is March 15.

Island Federal Credit Union will be awarding 11 high school seniors scholarships in the amount of $2,500 to $10,000. Eligible students must be accepted into a full-time undergraduate program at the time of entry and hold an Island checking/debit card account.

Print out and complete the Scholarship Entry Form at https://www.islandfcu.org/Island-Scholarship.aspx. The application deadline is April 19.

The Dream.US national scholarship program will award financial packages to highly motivated Dreamers with significant unmet financial need. A great emphasis is placed on demonstrating commitment to community service and ability to overcome the barriers and challenges that DREAMers face each and every day.
