Blue Devils Race at LI Elite Track Meet

February 29, 2024

The Blue Devil indoor boys’ track and field team performed well at the Long Island Elite Meet at St. Anthony’s last weekend. Huntington battled the best from Section XI, Section VIII and the CHSAA.

While Blue Devil senior Jahmar Francis qualified for the state meet in the 600m dash, he opted out of the event at the LI Elite Meet to work on speed for next Saturday’s state championships.

Francis competed in the 300m dash, where he won his heat in a personal best time of 36.57.  The Blue Devil great went on to anchor Huntington's 4x200m relay, which consisted of three other seniors in lead leg David Dax, second leg Christian Delgado and third leg Nicholas Rosan. The quartet won their heat in 1:33.36 and placed a close third behind Half Hollow Hills West (1:33.01) and Longwood (1:33.26).

In the frosh/soph division of the 300m dash which features the top freshmen and sophomores on Long Island, Titan Elysee earned a medal placing fifth in a personal best of 38.46.

Freshman Eric Heinz placed third in the 1600m in a personal best of 4:44.20. Heinz’ time ranks him as the No. 2 freshman in Suffolk; No. 3 on Long Island and No. 16 in the state.

Francis will compete this weekend at the state intersectional championships at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility at Staten Island.
