H-ton JV Football Players Presented Awards

Five outstanding players who each played key roles in helping the Huntington junior varsity football team compile a 6-2 record last fall were recognized with special awards at the Blue Devil football program’s annual dinner in the high school cafeteria.

The squad was coached by James C. Byrnes and James D. Byrnes, Jr. The JV was captained by Frank Algieri, Henry Gerberg, Chase Northrup, Jack Kamenstein, Banny Soc Concua and Erick Anariba.

The Blue Devils started the season off 1-2 and then went on to win the remaining five games in a row, outscoring its opponents 201-26.

Northrup (LB/TE) was presented with the Joe Lucey Coaches Award, named in honor of a longtime Huntington varsity head coach. Kamenstein (WR/LB) was named the Outstanding Offensive Player with Algieri (LB/RB) being tapped as the Outstanding Defensive Player. Concua (OL/LB) was recognized as the Outstanding Lineman. Gerberg (QB/DB) was honored as the team’s Most Outstanding Player.

Vinny Pupillo (CB/WR), Nick Normoyle (LB/TE), Will Peters (OL/DE), Christian Luca (K/S/P) and Walter Kusterbeck (CB/WR) also turned in spectacular seasons.

The team prided itself on its versatility and depth of talent with multiple players contributing touchdowns offensively. Gerberg led the team with 14 touchdown passes and seven rushing touchdowns. Kamenstein caught a team best 24 passes and had the most yards receiving. Algieri and Concua had the most tackles. Kamenstein and Concua led in interceptions.
