Huntington High School artists were at the Heckscher Museum of Art on Saturday afternoon for a Black History Month exhibition and reception held in collaboration with Leaders of the New School.

Huntington student-artists Dennis McCook, Christina Ray, Xavier-A’suan Anderson, Guniel “Titan” Elysee, Clarissa Marcelino-LaQua, Jean Riboul, Malik Sanders, Christina Ray, Sebastian Simon and Kalissa Simon had artwork on exhibit at the special show.

Saturday afternoon’s reception included congratulatory remarks and a live vocal performance by Celina Quinones. The Huntington artists are studying in classes taught by Kristin Singer, Kasmira Mohanty and Jenna Merget. They were joined by a group of students artists from Walt Whitman High School.

“This Black History Month, in the spirit of Anna & August Heckscher’s vision for the museum as a haven ‘especially for the children,’ the Heckscher Museum of Art and Leaders of the New School proudly present ‘An Artistic Fusion of Heritage and Culture,’” according to an exhibit preview. Through vibrant displays of visual and performing arts, this collaboration embodies the Heckscher Museum’s commitment to inclusivity and offers a platform where young talents shine.”

Leaders of the New School’s mission is to provide empowerment, programs and resources to the youth disproportionately impacted by political, social and economic inequities.
