PS I Love You Day at Flower Hill School

February 14, 2024

Flower Hill Primary School’s observance of PS I Love You Day last Friday was not only a fun time for everyone; it was meaningful, too. This year’s theme was “Love is meant to be given.”

“We wore  purple to create a community where everyone feels welcomed, loved and supported,” Principal Cindy Siegel said. The initiative was led by teachers Karen Grosso and Patricia Haack.

Organizers encouraged the entire Flower Hill community to “spread love to the world, others and most importantly, yourself.” Students really got into the spirit of the day. Countless photos were snapped both inside and outside to commemorate the day.

“Flower Hill  truly showed how love is meant to be given,” Ms. Siegel said. “All week long, the students were spreading love with positive affirmations, kindness grams, pictures, cards and their beautiful smiles. The purple that permeated throughout our school symbolized love, friendship and unity as we raised funds and awareness to the issues of mental health.

P.S. I Love You Day is a registered non-profit organization in New York State, dedicated to eradicating the stigma around mental health. “Our mission is to instill hope for those affected by mental illness, fostering a supportive environment and a community where everyone feels welcomed, loved, and supported,” according to its website.

“It has been heartwarming to witness the compassion demonstrated by our students as they embraced the spirit of kindness wholeheartedly,” Ms. Siegel said. “We believe that nurturing these values not only enhances the school environment but also prepares our children to be empathetic and caring individuals in their future endeavors.”
