Finley Football Awards Presented at Dinner

February 6, 2024

Five J. Taylor Finley Middle School football players were recognized by their coaches at the recent Blue Devil football dinner and awards night in the Huntington High School cafeteria.

Finley head coach Jordan Ioviero and assistant coaches Kevin Thorbourne and Greg Dieterich were on hand to present the awards before a crowd of about 250, including Superintendent Christian Bowen and Assistant Superintendent Christopher Hender.

The honorees at the Blue Devil dinner included Rasiere Blizzard (Most Outstanding Offensive Player), Rory McDermott (Most Outstanding Defensive Player), Logan Mazure (The Joe Lucey Coaches Award), Yovani Garcia Zavala (Special Teams Player of the Year) and Charles Rosselli (Team Most Valuable Player). Each of the five players was presented with a large trophy.

Ioviero enthusiastically reviewed the season and spoke energetically about the five award recipients. Finley won five of six games behind a powerful offensive unit and a defense that rose to the occasion more than once. The young Blue Devils also displayed the ability to come back from a significant double digit deficit and win.

After winning its first two games, Finley hosted nearby rival Stimson, which quickly jumped out to a 20-0 lead after only three minutes. But the young Blue Devils didn’t quit, rallying for 38 unanswered points on a gorgeous fall afternoon. Finley counted 53 players on its roster.
