Blue Devil Girls Enjoy Incredible Season

February 5, 2024

The Huntington varsity indoor girls’ track and field team has been quietly going about its business, training, competing and setting personal best records.

“The girls track team has had an incredible season and it’s certainly not done yet,” first year head coach Sarah Hall said.

Season highlights to date include:

• Sophomore Emma Boyle and freshman Norah Moskowitz continue to improve in the 1500m run, both earning a spot at the Large Schools County Championship at Suffolk West in Brentwood.

• Senior Andrea Mani-Munoz has solidified her status as a top competitor in the 1500m race walk. She is currently ranked in the top 15 of Section XI.

• Jannel Marroquin has turned in a huge senior season, earning a spot at the Large Schools County Championship in the 600m run.

• Sophomore Kohana Nakamura is a fierce competitor and has worked her way into three races at the Large Schools County Championship, including the 55m dash, 300m dash and as a member of the 4x200 relay alongside sophomores Jamyn Husselbeck, Dana Saramago and freshman Mylah Vizcaino.

• Freshman Piper Davis continued to set new personal records for herself throughout the season, ending with a phenomenal run at a spot in the Large School County Championship Meet for the 1000m run, but just barely missed the cut off.

• Senior Damaris Mani-Munoz joined her sister in the 1500m race walk this season for the first time (competitively) and saw a PR by 58 seconds, with a new PR of 9:08.

• Sophomore Jesley Martinez Canales had an impressive shot put season with a PR of 29 feet, earning a much-deserved spot in the Large Schools County Championships.

• Senior Lindsay Depeine is already looking toward the spring with her eyes set on breaking the school record in the discus.

• Sophomore Dana Saramago is making a name for herself as a hurdler, knocking nearly two full seconds off her PR from last winter in the 55m hurdles. She has set her sights on being a top contender in the 100m hurdles in the league this spring.

“I am so incredibly proud of this group and it has been a true honor to have had the opportunity to be their head coach with Coach [Mark] Jackson and Coach [Chris] Taylor,” Hall said. “I can’t wait to see what they accomplish this spring and am looking forward to continue coaching them to PRs, championships and more.”
