Southdown’s January Stars are Spectacular
February 2, 2024
Southdown Primary School has been enjoying a great year and the elements are in place for an exceptional spring semester, too.
Teachers are busy working with their classes and keeping Southdown’s students interested and moving ahead academically. The youngsters are happy as they go about their daily business with enthusiasm and determination.
One Southdown student is selected from each class in the building for formal recognition at the monthly “splash” assembly. The school considers these youngsters to be its stars of the month.
Southdown’s January Stars include:
Universal pre-kindergarten: Zachary Distl, Madelyn Cruz Lazo;
Kindergarten: James Avila Anariba, Joel Martinez, Shivansh Verma, Susan Dominguez, Jack Sabino;
First grade: Cayla Serrano, Alisson Guevara Benitez, Maeve Szczurowski, Levin Ortez Villatoro;
Second grade: Brianna Uzho, Carly Ventura, Isabella Hults, Javier Giron Contreras;
Third grade: Nevaeh Ladson, Sydney Stark, Leah Felico
Why a so-called “splash” assembly? Well, that’s an easy question to answer. Southdown is the home of the dolphins, the school’s mascot. Students are awarded “splashes” for displaying positive behavior in the classroom and out and about the building, including being kind to others, demonstrating proper behavior in hallways and even boosting the spirits of someone feeling a little down.
Southdown has many upcoming events on its school schedule. Southdown’s Someone Special Dance is set for February 8. PTAs meeting are scheduled for March 5 and April 16, both at 7:30 p.m. Southdown’s Bingo Night will be held on March 7. Family Engagement Night is on the calendar for March 13. A pancake breakfast is planned for Saturday, March 23. The Southdown Variety Show is set for April 17.
