Huntington Boys’ Track Starts Winning Medals

The Huntington High School winter season boys’ track and field team has won an assortment of medals over the past two weeks. A roster of about 45 is dominated by underclassmen who are already displaying their talents and potential.

Carlos Marroquin and Titan Elysee are among Huntington's best performers.

The Blue Devils traveled to Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania on December 7 where they found the competition to be fierce. But the Devils managed to come away with some good times and event medals.

Earning Huntington’s first medal was junior Matt Ross in the shot put, who launched the weighted ball 44’8 feet for third place. Senior Carlos Marroquin finished fifth in long jump with a leap of 20’1 feet.

Sophomore Eric Heinz finished in sixth place in the 800m run in a time of 2:10.45. Later in the meet, the quartet of lead leg senior Dom Mattio, second leg senior Carlos Marroquin, third leg sophomore Eric Heinz and anchor leg junior Titan Elysee earned a hard fought third place medal finishing in a time of 3:39.12.

Huntington traveled to Staten Island for the Nassau Coaches Invitational this past weekend. Elysee won his heat in the hurdles in 8.51, finishing seventh overall. einz earned a bronze medal in the 1000m run finishing in seventh with a time of 2:53.

The freshman/sophomore relays got on the podium earning medals in the 4x200m relay and the 4x400m relay. In the frosh/soph 4x200m, the Blue Devil relay consisting of Joe Raymundo, Dylan Michaelson, Alexis Gomez and Zayvion McCoy placed fifth in 1:42.47.

The frosh/soph 4x400m relay of Adan Ntambwe, Benjamin Burke, Michael Grover and Ezra Oddoye placed sixth in a time of 4:03.

In the throwing circle, Matt Ross captured gold, placing first with a toss of 41’4.75 feet. Juniors Banny Soc Concua and Jean Riboul placed eighth and ninth, respectively.

In the frosh/soph section of the shot put, sophomore Joseph Rivers placed second with a toss of 37’9.50 feet and Zack Matthews earned a bronze for fifth place with a toss of 34’6.50 feet.

The Blue Devil 4x400m relay consisting of Mattio, Marroquin, Heinz, and Elysee improved their time to 3:35 with a third place finish behind Elmont and Freeport, respectively.

Elysee, Marroquin, and Mattio competed the next day at Suffolk West in Crossover C where they each ran in the 300m dash. Elysee won in 38.28; Matto placed third in 38.63 and Marroquin in fourth in 38.88.
