August 12, 2024

Veteran Huntington High School art teacher Kasmira Mohanty will be among three honorees at the Heckscher Museum of Art’s Celebrate Achievement benefit at Water’s Edge in Centerport on Saturday, October 19 from 12-4 p.m.

An internationally recognized and award winning digital artist who has been on Huntington UFSD’s faculty since 2001, Ms. Mohanty holds degrees from The Fashion Institute of Technology, Purchase College and Dowling College.

Ms. Mohanty will be honored alongside Town of Huntington Historian Robert C. Hughes and fellow artist Han Quin.

“Kasmira Mohanty is an educator, writer and artist who has spent the last three decades straddling, amalgamating and pushing the boundaries between traditional and digital art making,” according to the Heckscher Museum.

The Huntington High School art teacher is an executive board member of Huntington Arts Council and the Suffolk County Art Leaders Assn.

“Kasmira received national attention when she became a writer and contributing editor for SchoolArts Magazine,” the Heckscher Museum said. “Among other exhibitions, her artwork has been exhibited in the Long Island Biennial twice, receiving a Merit Award in 2022. Her dedication to the arts and education has led to a productive and cherished 24 year relationship with the Museum. Kasmira’s students have followed in her footsteps, receiving numerous accolades through the Long Island’s Best program, illustrating her lasting impact on budding young artists.”
