Homecoming King and Queen Crowned at Pep Rally

September 30, 2024

The crowning of the king and queen is one of the highlights of any Homecoming Day celebration. Huntington High School decided to introduce the royal court at last Friday afternoon’s pep rally at Blue Devil Stadium before Principal Rochelle Brown and Superintendent Beth McCoy crowned Iverson Menjivar and Lauren Donaghy as Homecoming 2024's king and queen.

For many decades the king and queen were crowned at halftime of Saturday’s football game, but student government leaders decided that since the entire school was in the bleachers at the pep rally, it was a great time to make the big announcement before a throng of more than 1,500 students, teachers and support staff members.

The nominees for queen were Kiana Alfaro-Hernandez, Lindsay Depeine, Lauren Donaghy, Rafaella Gregorio and Nina Fascilla. Nominees for king included James Larson, Colin Lennon, Max Leroy and Iverson Mejivar Quintanilla.

When the nominees were announced there was a roar from the huge crowd, which again erupted in applause. Photographs were snapped of the royal court and the king and queen and big smiles were on everyone’s face.

The students themselves the nominated king and queen candidates and then selected the winners, also by a vote. The king and queen were crowned and also given a sash. Mr. Iverson and Ms. Donaghy rode in an open air truck during Saturday’s Homecoming Day parade.
