Huntington Girls’ Tennis Off to Great Start

The Huntington varsity girls’ tennis team has dodged a series of injuries to some of its best players and overcome a variety of obstacles and challenges to win most of its early season meets.
The Blue Devils’ most recent victory came on Wednesday afternoon when the topped Smithtown West, 5-2. Huntington’s Sabrina Boyle captured a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory in No. 1 singles and Bridget Callery and Kate Gordon teamed up in doubles to win a thrilling 7-6 (7-1), 5-7, 10-6 match.
Huntington is 6-2 overall (4-1 in league play). The Blue Devils are coached by Jamie Fishlow. Vincenza Garofalo and Isabella Palacios are the team captains.
The Blue Devils opened the season with a pair of wins over Bay Shore (6-1) and Patchogue-Medford (6-1) before falling in a non-league match at Shoreham-Wading River, 5-2. Huntington then topped Half Hollow Hills West and Northport by identical 4-3 scores before losing to powerful Half Hollow Hills East, 5-2. Huntington then turned back Kings Park (4-3) and Walt Whitman (5-2).
The Blue Devil roster consists of sophomores Grace Callery, Amanda Ganley, Kate Gordon, Grace Kline, Fiona Lynch and Ella Palatnek; juniors Bridget Callery, Madeleine Kalenderian, Mia Kaufman, Naomi Lyons, Isabella Palacios, Claire Parks, Emma Polinsky and Valentina Puccio and seniors Sabrina Boyle and Vincenza Garofalo.
Huntington has regular season matches remaining with Hauppauge, Smithtown East, Commack and Harborfields.
