Huntington UFSD Invited to Fire Prevention Open House
September 27, 2024
Huntington UFSD students and parents are invited to attend the Halesite Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Open House on Sunday (September 29) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You.”
Participants will learn about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home, testing them regularly, and replacing them promptly.
“We have arranged for numerous live demonstrations including fire evacuation instructions using the Smoke House trailer, effective use of extinguishers with live fire, how to perform hands-only CPR (REGISTER HERE for this FREE class), blood pressure screenings, plus tours of the firehouse, tours of our apparatus and more,” according to promotional material.
The open house is open to children and adults of all ages. The Halesite Fire Department reached out to Huntington UFSD to extend a special invitation to students and their parents.
“We know it’s important to educate our young community members as they are often quicker to pick up safety tips and can teach their parents, siblings and friends according to the HFD. “Hand-only CPR is such a great skill to learn at any age and knowing that most instances of CPR need to be performed outside of a healthcare setting, having the ability to save a life at an early age is a benefit that will last a lifetime.”
Children who attend will be able to learn more about fire prevention and meet some of the men and women who volunteer as firefighters or EMTs. There will be free refreshments, giveaways, contests and prizes for kids and adults.
